Ethics in Action

Ethical values have always been regarded as an necessary quality of a good civil servant. It is in that context, civil service aspirants are tested on subject of Ethics in Mains Examination of a Civil Service Examination.

Once an aspirant gets selected and joins public service, he needs to sharpen his knowledge of ethics by practicing in day-to-day situations.

A good training program should afford opportunities to Officer Trainees to practice and reflect on Ethical Values.

  1. Great initiative Sir.
Here it is pertinent to note that public servants are those who should lead by example, a role model in their family, office and society. Thus, ethics and values needs to be persistently taught to them. A constant work in progress.
Here it will be good to have something like a code of honour when they come for FC.
Also in case of gross violation, they should be punished.
Inclusion and sensitivity towards the wanting is another way of building on the foundation of values.

  2. Wonderful initiative. Ethics can't be taught. Hence, exposing officer trainees to those that have led an ethical life and have succeeded will make them believe that ethical conduct pays in life and in one's profession.
